My Favorite Restaurant

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite restaurant?

Can I just start by saying that the word “Restaurant” is still hard for me to spell, lol? When I type it on my phone, I wait for autocorrect to tell me the correct way. This is coming from a “Spelling Bee” Champion when I was a kid. I never had difficulty spelling words until the age of the smart phone.

Anyways… the question is—What is my favorite restaurant? Typically, I would say Uncle Bo’s Slow and Low BBQ is my favorite. A local guy owns the place, and the food is absolutely amazing. I have never had anything bad there, and it’s always cooked to perfection. The best thing about the place is that you can tell the owner is passionate about food just by tasting the food. He cares about his reputation, his employees, his quality in meats, and all of that. The unfortunate thing for him and his restaurant was the location, and of course, the pandemic. His place was booming before the pandemic even though the restaurant’s location wasn’t an ideal area… I say this meaning that it was basically in a barren area, and not many people would see it off the main road. So he relied on word of mouth and social media to get the name out there. They were doing well until they had to shut down for the pandemic. Once things opened up again, it seemed like he couldn’t get his feet back under him. Inflation wasn’t helping either. He wasn’t about to settle for lesser quality in his products and meats, so things became difficult to stay afloat. He closed his restaurant in March of 2025. I think he’s going back to his roots as a food truck (that’s how his business started), but I do believe he’s moved out of state to a warmer climate where his food truck will be able to stay open year round.

As I’ve said, the food was delicious, and I already miss it. So when I said I’d typically name that as my favorite restaurant, I can’t really say that anymore because I won’t be able to go there anymore. My runner up is a Hibachi place nearby called Fujiyama. The atmosphere is nice, the staff are always great, and the food is so so good! This restaurant, for me, is more of an event-like thing. You can’t just go with a date or your spouse—you can, but it’s way more fun with a group of friends or family. My family used to go often, and we’d have an absolute blast. The food always has you wanting more. In fact, I think I’m going there tomorrow!
