“She says the jungle just came alive and took him.” Imagine walking through your local park or forest and you see the trees or brush in front of you move slightly on a windless day. You suddenly feel a sense of dread, nausea, and chills. You watch closely as an almost distortion in the air or blurred wave of air slowly moves toward you. Its movements match that of a human, but nothing about this encounter feels human to you. You try to run, but you’re paralyzed either by fear or by something the entity has done to you. What do you do? What is it?
Welcome to this week’s Monster of the Week! The Glimmer Man, (not the Steven Seagal movie from 1996) is a strange entity that feels awfully similar to the alien creature in the Predator film. You’ll have to forgive me for quoting the film throughout this article, but it’s one of my favorite movies, and based on the sources, I’m not the only one who gets these vibes. “Eyewitnesses consistently describe the entity as a nearly invisible humanoid, characterized by its ability to blend seamlessly into surroundings, much like the camouflage effect seen in certain films.”
“Like a hunter. He’s using the trees.”
Most of the sightings report seeing the entity in the trees much like in the film. Hunters in Idaho had an encounter with the glimmer man, and they never returned to the area afterwards. It didn’t attack them, but they sat in silence on their two hour drive home, and looked for other places to hunt after that. “I couldn’t see it, but heard the leaves moving. Then it got quiet, real quiet. No birds, no bugs, nothing. That’s when I saw it… about 30 yards east of me. Something was in the tree. I looked at it, but couldn’t tell what it was. I raised my rifle and looked at it through my scope. My heart sank and a cold chill ran down my back. My first thought was that’s the ‘Predator’ or something from the abyss. It had a human shape, but looked like it was made of water. I could see through it, but it was distorted.”
The Glimmer Man didn’t attack the hunter or his hunting partner who showed up shortly after he called him to get over there. They watched it, and then they ran out of the woods; never to return.
Is it possible these folks are seeing an alien? Could the film have been lightly based on a true story? In the conspiracy circles, it’s often been stated that the ‘powers that be’ will feed certain “truths” like aliens or pandemic-like situations to Hollywood as a way to prepare the population for a big reveal at a later time. Again, that’s a conspiracy theory, but is it that farfetched? You have to wonder what they might not be telling us, and you have to wonder what people are seeing when it comes to sightings such as this, or other sightings like UFO’s, aliens, and cryptids.
Not much is known of what it could be, but there is plenty of speculation. Some say the Glimmer Man or people are spirits from the afterlife. Others believe them to be inter-dimensional beings who cross over to our dimension, which could possibly explain the way it appears to be distorted; like it can’t fully cross over, but then why are so many of them in the trees like the alien in the movie? Could it be aliens? Many claim that aliens walk among us, so I suppose that’s possible, especially if you factor in how some sightings are associated with UFO sightings. In my research, as I stated above, some folks feel a sense of dread and uneasiness when they encounter the entity, but none that I’ve found have claimed to be attacked. Some folks get an eerie feeling it’s trying to communicate to them. Honestly, I’d love to know what it’s trying to say.
If there weren’t so many sightings in trees and forests, I’d have mentioned the possibility of new camouflage technology for the military. I know there has been talk in the past for the U.S. Military wanting to use predator-like camouflage, but the sightings don’t track for this to be the case. I imagine that technology exists, or is at least in the research and development phase. It’s possible the scientists of the world discovered this technology by studying the Glimmer Man.
What do you think the Glimmer Man could be? While there isn’t much in the way of proof, I believe this one exists, but I’m not sure what it could be.
