Random Act of Kindness

Daily writing prompt
Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

Jon Solo Sebastian 07/30/2025:

I’m not entirely sure this counts as a random act of kindness, but I’m going to share it because this just happened last night at work. I can’t remember how long this has been going on, but it’s been at least since this past winter. There’s this super nice lady at work who is probably 15-20 years older than me, and she always looks tired or sort of sad or down. For whatever reason, every day for several months, instead of saying hi or good morning, I would greet her by wishing her a random “happy holiday.” I have been doing this every day up until recently because I’m pretty sure I’ve gone through every single holiday that exists—and I’m positive I’ve repeated several of them. The thing is… it’s silly, but she always laughed and she would try to respond with her own “happy holiday.” She eventually ran out, or was too tired to keep up with it, but I did my best to keep it going because making someone smile and laugh means I’m doing something to brighten someone else’s day.

Last night at work, I saw her, and I stopped and said, “I honestly think I’m tapped out, but hello, good morning, and I hope you have a great day.”

She smiled at me, and said, “You have been such a trooper with this, and you honestly make my day every day here. Thank you for making me laugh every day.”

That actually made me happy and smile… I’ve been having a very awful week, but being told that I make someone laugh and smile every day made my day, as well.

It’s the littlest things sometimes that make the biggest impact. I do my best, all the time, to be kind and helpful whether it’s holding the door for someone, or helping someone carry something I see them struggling with, or offering an ear for them to vent, etc. Life is hard, so if I can do anything to make them forget about how hard it is for a moment, I will do it.

Hope you all have a wonderful day, and thank you for taking a second to read this!
