What skill would you like to learn?

Jon Solo Sebastian 09/22/2025:

I would love to learn Blacksmithing. Tapping a little into my ancestory recently leads me to believe it’s a skill that more than likely ran in my bloodline. I’ve always been interested in it, and fascinated by it. This might sound silly, but I always managed to spend far too much time at the forge in various video games I used to play like Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age. You could create armor and weapons, or upgrade them. Obviously, it’s different in the real world, but if I could spend some of my spare time creating things like that for real, I’d be all over it. I don’t watch a lot of TV—especially reality TV, but a show I watched every once in a while called Forged in Fire certainly held my interest. It was really cool watching what those guys made.

Sometimes, I think about what might happen if we get blasted with an EMP strike, or if our technology is destroyed somehow. There are a lot of layers in that type of scenario, but I usually think about how we might survive as a civilization in that type of situation. While Blacksmithing might not be top of the list for survival, it could prove to be almost as important as hunting for food. Forging blades and armor could be in high demand in that type of dystopian world.

Weapons and armor aren’t the only things you can do with such a skill, though. You can make keys, locks, jewelry, tools, grill grates, sculptures, and so many more things. Honestly, if you’re a highly skilled Blacksmith, the options of what to make are nearly endless. This daily prompt has prompted me to look into how to get started. Fortunately for me, one of my closest friends is a Blacksmith of sorts, and is willing to teach me.
