I asked my wife this question before I answered it because I felt like she’d have a good response. My wife said, “We’d tell her that we’re not trying to hurt her when we clip her nails.” Seriously, you would think our cat would be used to this and trust us by now. She trusts us, but freaks out the second she sees the clippers. While I support and agree with my wife’s answer, I have to answer it myself, as well.
For me, I would just make her understand that when I leave for work that I will definetely come back home. I love her little routine when I’m getting ready to leave. She follows me around the house, and she tries to lie down on my shoes and grab my shoelaces while I’m trying to tie them. Then she bats at my legs when I’m walking toward the door. Honestly, it’s adorable, but I feel bad when I leave. Then when I get home, she’s always right at the door waiting for her belly rubs. I’m heading off to read what everyone else’s answers are because I’m interested to hear what other people would want their pets to understand.
