Books and Movies Updated

Hi! If you’ve read some of my recent posts in 2026, you’ll know that I had started a new thing this year where I’ll be reading 26 books in 2026, and watching 52 movies in 52 weeks. I think I’m mostly on track for this, but I haven’t watched any movies for a couple of weeks. I will probably do an occasional update on this because it will help me stay on track, and also, there might be a book or movie in here that interests you, and you’ll want to see it or read it.

  1. Solo: A Star Wars Story
  2. Dark City
  3. 16 Candles
  4. Super Troopers
  5. The Breakfast Club
  6. National Treasure
  7. National Treasure 2
  8. The Other Guys
  9. The Wrecking Crew
  10. Deadpool and Wolverine

So, what do you think of the list? Most of these I’ve seen before, but I hadn’t seen The Wrecking Crew or Deadpool and Wolverine until now. The Wrecking Crew is a must-see. It was hilarious… probably the funniest I’ve seen Jason Momoa. Dave Bautista played a very serious role and continues to show the world that he is a very talented actor. If you love action films with a lot of humor… and inappropriate humor, this movie will not disappoint. I give it a 9/10.

Deadpool and Wolverine was way better than I expected. I’m not a big Deadpool fan, but Ryan Reynolds was definitely born to play the character. Hugh Jackman back as Logan/Wolverine was a gift to all of us Wolverine fans! Before I give this film my stamp of approval, I would just like to point out that while I enjoyed the first Deadpool movie, I didn’t like the second one at all. This movie was an easy 10/10 for me. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. Not a dull moment throughout the film, and we got some surprise appearances by characters/actors from Marvel films of the past, which just made it even better; these characters didn’t feel like fan service or anything—they were written into the story in a way that was almost a play on why the characters haven’t been seen in a while.

Up next on my “what to watch” list includes: King Arthur (2004), Iron Man, Alien, Escape From New York, and Reign of Fire. It is very possible that some of these get bumped out for others, but this is the plan as of today!

  1. Star Wars: Heir to the Empire
  2. Star Wars: Dark Force Rising
  3. Star Wars: The Last Command
  4. Star Wars: I, Jedi

I know, I know, ALL Star Wars books, so far. If you’ve been following me from the beginning, you’ll know that I used to be a HUGE Star Wars fan. I grew up a Star Wars fan, then back in 2020, I started a podcast called Clone Army Radio. The podcast ran for around 150 episodes before I got a little burned out on Star Wars. Then if you take the state of the franchise into consideration over the last few years, it has been difficult to be a fan when there is a lot of disappointment along with a lot of negative energy surrounding it. I stepped away from my fandom for close to two years, but then out of nowhere, it returned. I’ve been slowly getting back into it, and have been having a good time with Star Wars again. I think it was when I started my annual listening of the original Thrawn Trilogy books… yes, they ARE THAT GOOD!!

I have one more Star Wars book I just borrowed from the library, and then I promise, I will get into some non-Star Wars books. I just finished I, Jedi the other day, and I have to say that it was a tough one to get through. It started out great, then it would get boring, then exciting again, then boring, and then it ended with a bang! Nothing against the author, but he was overly detailed in his storytelling, and I’m more of a “less detail, more imagination” type of person. I’ve also discovered that I’m not a big fan of first-person narrative in books. It was okay, but in the audio book format, it was hard to immerse myself into the story. I might sound like I’m bashing the book, but overall, even through the slog, it was a great story that connected stories from the Jedi Academy Trilogy and the Rogue Squadron books, so that was cool for me since I’ve read those a few times over the years. If I was going to rate it, I’d go with a generous 7/10.

What’s on my plate for the next few books? Well, as I mentioned, I have one more Star Wars book to read/listen to before I jump into some others. Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter is up next, and the reason for that is due to the animated Maul: Shadow Lord series that comes out in April. This book has nothing to do with that series, but I’m just sort of getting my Darth Maul brain back on before the series comes out. After that book, I’m going to read Batman: Resurrection, The Secret of Secrets, and the graphic novel BRZRKR Volume One, which is written by Keanu Reeves!

What are you watching? What are you reading? I’d love to know. Perhaps you’ll have something new for me to read or watch, so please feel free to check in with me. Until next time, “Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes!” – Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure quote!
