Orange Eyes

Before I get started, I’d like to give a quick shout out to all of you who have subscribed to my bloggo! Thank you for being here and thank you for reading my fun little stories about the creepy crawly’s and everything else I post on here! And if this is your first time, welcome aboard! I have over fifty articles on here with many more on the way.

We’re keeping things in Ohio for this week’s creature feature. I had no idea Ohio was so rich in cryptid folklore until I started this blogsite. I had heard of a few of them, and I’ve been to a couple of the nearby haunted places, but wow, my home state is rolling in cryptids, and the paranormal! Once the weather gets out of single digit temperatures, I’m going to try to work some road trips into my days off to check these places out. I’ll be sure to take plenty of pictures and videos to post here and on my socials (@jonsolosebastian on Instagram and Facebook).

This week’s monster of the week is—Orange Eyes. What, or who is Orange Eyes? He’s either a relative of Bigfoot with glowing orange eyes, a friend of the Charles Mill Lake Monster, or a pair of orange bike reflectors attached to a piece of wood that young folks stick out of the bushes to scare people away from the woods. If he wasn’t so tall (11 feet tall, allegedly), I might have suggested he’s a Jawa from Star Wars.

Orange Eyes, a Sasquatch, might be the Grassman or a relative of the Grassman of Ohio. The reason I say that is because one of the nicknames for him was Orange Eyes. It’s possible that it’s less of a nickname for the Bigfoot’s of the world, and more of a name witnesses use when describing him—most folks report glowing eyes as one of the frightening and prominent features during their sightings.

The first reported sighting of Orange Eyes took place near Charles Mill Lake, which is close to Mansfield, Ohio. It’s also the location of another cryptid that is said to be an armless Swamp Thing-like creature or sea serpent, depending on which story you want to believe. I’ll be publishing a blog on the Charles Mill Lake Monster next week. It is said that in 1959, or 1963 depending on who is telling the story, that Orange Eyes, who stands eleven feet tall and weighs approximately one thousand pounds, attempted to attack eyewitnesses near Lovers Lane. The witnesses, two teenagers, claim the creature walked out of the ground covered fog and attacked them. Nothing is said about how it attacked them or how they were able to get away.

Once the teenagers spoke of what had happened, many people in town armed up and went out to the lake looking for the beast. I don’t have to spell out their intentions. Lucky for Ole Orange Eyes, they couldn’t find him. Other encounters ended with similar results; his attacks were more jump scares than anything remotely physical. People have theorized where he might have come from, and why he is so hell-bent on attacking anyone that gets too close. “Orange Eyes was initially a gentle and reclusive creature that resided within a tunnel situated in Cleveland’s River Side cemetery.

According to this theory, the creature’s tranquil existence was disrupted in the late 1940s when a construction crew building a highway inadvertently destroyed its habitat. Poor Orange Eyes was compelled to relocate to the wooded vicinity close to Mill Lake. This relocation brought about more frequent encounters with humans, leading to a notable shift in its demeanor for the worse. Can’t blame him really.”

The last report came in June of 1991 near Willis Creek, Ohio. Two fishermen spotted him one morning. Orange Eyes wasn’t close enough to put the men on high alert, but they were terrified. They remained still, but had an escape plan in mind if he started heading their way. After what felt like forever to the fishermen, but likely only minutes, the beast walked away to go about his business.

I’m not sure if folks stopped looking for him, or if something happened to him, but there haven’t been any sightings after that day; at least reported sightings. Could he have possibly been picked up by his mother ship? Considering there have been UFO sightings near the Charles Mill Lake, maybe the monster in the lake and Orange Eyes are from another planet… X-Files theme enters the chat.
