Jon Solo Sebastian 05/04/2026:
It has been a while since I’ve written anything about Star Wars. That has a lot to do with me being very burned out on all things in that galaxy far, far away for a while. I suppose that can happen when you obsess over something from childhood into adulthood so much so that you create a podcast to talk about it for 140+ episodes, ha ha. I’ve also just not been super interested in a lot of the “newer” storytelling they’ve been doing over the last few years. My love for it has been slowly returning, and with it being May the Fourth, I felt like it was time to dive into some Star Wars love.
Before I get started, I will say that I’ve been getting back into the older Star Wars books this past year and have read some good ones! Mostly books I’ve read before, but one that I had never read titled: I, Jedi. I really enjoyed that one. It follows Corran Horn, a fairly popular character in the Expanded Universe/Legends books. He has really cool background. He’s a Corellian, like Han Solo. He worked as an investigator for C-Sec (Corellian Security), and then he found his way to joining Rogue Squadron as an X-wing pilot. That wasn’t all, though. Corran is force sensitive, and is one of the first members of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy he started on Yavin. So many crazy and exciting things happen during the timeline of a few book series: X-Wing: Rogue Squadron, Jedi Academy Trilogy, and I, Jedi. Corran Horn’s story is similar to Luke’s story, but also very different and new… well, new for the 1990’s. If you have any interest in Star Wars books that take place in a non-canon timeline after Return of the Jedi, these books are a good time.
Inquisitors

Okay, so the reason I’m here talking Star Wars today… I’ve been watching the new animated series titled, Maul: Shadow Lord, and I have to say that it has been a blast so far. Some of my all-time favorite Star Wars storytelling comes from The Clone Wars series, and this feels very similar to that. I won’t spoil anything that happens in the show in case you haven’t seen it yet, but in the trailers, you’ve likely seen an Inquisitor with a red lightsaber. The Inquisitors are fairly new to Star Wars; they first appeared in the animated series, Rebels, which debuted in 2014.
The Inquisitorius is an organization created by the Empire, and they are responsible for ensuring the completion of the Jedi Purge. They are force sensitive; some are former Jedi, and one of them, the Grand Inquisitor was once a Jedi Temple Guard. They have been broken and corrupted by the Empire, by the dark side of the force, and have one job. They’re essentially Jedi Hunters. If a potential Jedi is spotted somewhere, the Empire is contacted, and the Inquisitors are dispatched to investigate. If they find a Jedi during their investigation, they are ordered to execute Order 66 (kill them).
As you can see by the images, they have really cool character designs. Some of their armor or helmets have an almost medieval style/design. They’re meant to strike fear into everyone everywhere they go… just don’t expect that in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series; they were very unimpressive in that series. On that note, the Inquisitors appeared in many shows and video games. You can see them in animated series like, Rebels, Maul, Tales of the Jedi/Empire, or live action shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka, and the video game’s Jedi: Fallen Order, and Jedi: Survivor.
Some unique tidbits
Some of them have actual names, but a lot of them are just known as First Brother, or Seventh Sister. They all have those designations, but some have a name to go with it.
Another unique thing about them is their lightsabers. Some fans think the lightsaber design is silly, while others like it. I’m kind of in the middle. They’re similar to Darth Maul’s double bladed lightsaber, but they spin by the press of a button. Then comes the weird part that we’ve only seen in animation, so far—when they get their double bladed lightsabers spinning, they can hold it up in the air like the propellers of a helicopter… and use it to fly, like a handheld helicopter. It’s a fun design, but also silly.
The downside to these characters is the lack of backstory for most of them. A lot of them are really cool, but we don’t know enough about them to really get overly excited when they’re on screen. That said, I’d like to name a few that I have become a fan of.
First Brother, also known as Marrok

When I first saw him, I was instantly a fan due to his design. He has a little bit of a medieval knight style of a helmet, but it also gave off Snake Eyes (GI Joe) vibes. Not a whole lot is known about him other than he was recruited very early on in the creation of the Inquisitorius. Without spoiling anything, his appearance somewhere added some serious stakes to the story, and he is hunting more than just Jedi. Really cool character design, and he fights with the killer instinct you’d expect from a Sith or Dark Side Force Wielder.
Second Sister, also known as Trilla Suduri

“A tragic villain, the Second Sister is the main antagonist of the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Previously the Padawan Trilla Suduri, she and her master Cere Junda survived Order 66 and hid from the Empire for a time. Junda was eventually captured by the Imperials and subjected to torturous interrogations, finally succumbing and giving away Trilla’s location.” She obviously felt betrayed and hurt by her master, but if that wasn’t enough, she was then tortured and corrupted by the Empire until they turned her into another tool in their Inquisition.
There are more, but if you’re interested in learning about them, I’d highly recommend you start by watching Star Wars Rebels. Just keep in mind that just because they’re animated shows, that doesn’t mean they’re just for kid. When I was doing my podcast, we covered a lot of The Clone Wars arcs, and we were constantly asking each other that question, “Is this supposed to be for kids?” The reason being is that it gets very dark. Obi-Wan wasn’t sugar coating in any way when he mentions the “dark times.” Between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, there was a lot of darkness in the galaxy. I’m not saying it’s gory or anything like that, and honestly, Rebels is fairly kid friendly, but I’m just saying that adults can enjoy it, too.
So, if you’re a Star Wars fan, and you’ve never seen the shows I’ve mentioned, or you’re interested in learning more about the Inquisitors, I feel like you’ve got some fun things to sink your teeth into. Also, maybe you’ll check out some of the books I mentioned at the beginning. Either way…. May the Force be with you!
